Modular Photonics offers two OMPlex product lines, OMPlex and OMPlex Pro. OMPlex is only compatible with transceivers that can accept light from a multimode fibre, such as 1000BASE-LX/LH, 10GBASE-LRM, 10GBASE-LR, 25GBASE-LR and 40GBASE-LX4. In contrast, OMPlex Pro is compatible with any single-mode transceiver and has been tested up to 100 Gbps data rate using 100GBASE-LR4 transceivers. OMPlex is less sensitive to the connector quality in the fibre link but its range is limited. It is recommended for links where the connector quality is unknown, and the length is 500 m or less. OMPlex Pro can reach longer distances but losses due to low quality connectors have to be carefully assessed to avoid exceeding the transceiver’s power budget.
OMPlex and OMPlex Pro are available as compact modules to upgrade a duplex fibre link or as a 1U 19” rack to upgrade a multi-strand fibre cable (6, 12 or 24 cores for instance). Rack mounted products are not available with optical fibre connectors on the multimode side of the device and must be fusion spliced directly onto the fibre cable.
